2026 GENERAL ELECTION

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026. Virginia polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Voters in line by 7:00 p.m. may vote.

Early in-person voting: September 18 through October 31

Register or update your registration: October 23

Request a mailed absentee ballot: application must reach the Frederick County election office by 4:30 p.m. on October 23

1. CHECK OR UPDATE YOUR REGISTRATION

Use the Virginia Department of Elections Citizen Portal to register, check your status, update your address, request an absentee ballot, track an absentee ballot, and verify your polling precinct:

Paper registration applications are also available from the Virginia Department of Elections, the Frederick County election office, public libraries, and Virginia DMV offices. A completed paper application may be mailed or hand-delivered to the local election office. Address changes are subject to the same registration deadline, so update them promptly.

3. VOTE BY MAIL

Apply online through the Virginia absentee-voting page or submit a signed paper application to the Frederick County election office. For the November 3 election, the office must receive the application by 4:30 p.m. Friday, October 23.

Return your completed ballot by mail according to the included instructions, or deliver it to the Frederick County election office during authorized hours. Ballots may also be returned to an authorized drop-off location when one is operating. Verify current return deadlines and drop-off options with the election office before traveling.

4. VOTE ON ELECTION DAY

Your assigned polling place depends on your registered residential address. Use the Citizen Portal to verify your polling precinct before Election Day. Do not rely on an old voter card or a previous polling location if you have moved.
